Chadi Alraies, MD, Presents Case of an Elderly Patient with Severe Aortic Stenosis Supported with the Impella CP® Device

November 16, 2017

Chadi Alraies, MD, of the Medstar Washington Hospital Center describes a case of hemodynamic support with the Impella® device in a patient with severe aortic stenosis referred to the hospital for TAVR. Since the patient was elderly and was at risk for complications, the physicians and family members decided against escalating therapy to high-risk extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Instead, the patient was supported with the Impella CP® device due to persisting hypotension. Dr. Alraies also discusses how the patient was able to be weaned off of vasopressors over the course of 4 days of Impella device support.
